As a Director of Scottish SPCA, you can expect to join a dedicated team of passionate professionals who share our values and who are committed to championing animal welfare.
The Society was founded in 1839 and our strategic ambitions are clearly mapped out for years ahead (Read our Business Plan 2021 and Annual Review 2019). Our Board of Directors are drawn from diverse backgrounds for their knowledge, expertise and skills ranging from farming, to veterinary, financial and legal sectors. (Read more about our existing Directors in the Board Bio sheet).
Following the retirement of several long-serving Committee members in June 2021, we have a number of vacancies on our Board, in particular for the role of Treasurer, and we would love to hear from individuals with senior level leadership expertise, experience and skills in the following areas:
We are keen to encourage applications from groups currently underrepresented on our Board: people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, people under 50 and people with disabilities.
Additionally, all directors must meet the Fit and Proper Persons criteria to be a charity trustee.
The main Board meets 4 times a year and, as members may be asked to support our key strategic subcommittees, such as People, Culture & Reward, Health, Safety Wellbeing & Environmental, Finance & Operating Performance, Fundraising & Brand Building and Ethics & Policy, effective chairing skills at a senior committee level are desirable.
Initial appointment is for a 4-year term with the opportunity for reappointment for a further 4 years.
