The Treasury Capital Markets (TCM) function within Corporate Treasury manages fixed-income investments in several portfolios totaling approximately $300 billion in balance sheet assets primarily for the benefit of Charles Schwab Corporation, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., Charles Schwab Bank, Charles Schwab Premier Bank, and Charles Schwab Trust Bank.
As an individual contributor within the TCM Asset & Liability Management Strategy team you will play a key role in the overall strategic optimization of the balance sheet from an integrated investment portfolio, loan portfolio and balance sheet management perspective through collaboration and partnership with critical business partners, stakeholders, and subject matter specialists (e.g. liquidity, capital, credit, interest rate risk, stress testing, controllers, etc).
In this role, you will support the consumer loan portfolio through detailed analytics and analysis of the Mortgage, HELOC and PAL products. These analyses will ultimately drive management decision making across the organization as it pertains to the rapidly growing direct consumer loan business. The ideal candidate is well versed in these consumer products and has the ability to dig into the detail then pull back to communicate the bigger picture from a loan portfolio and overall balance sheet impact perspective.
While the position is primarily focused on Lending Analytics, the TCM Balance Sheet Management team has an elastic organizational structure providing ample opportunity for you to take on additional responsibilities, seek learning & development opportunities, and give to a number of ALM and Balance Sheet Management objectives.
What you are good at:
Supporting Balance Sheet Management team to manage Interest Rate Risk (IRR) & Credit Risk across Schwabs individual and consolidated balance sheets
Collaborating with and supporting key business partners through existing reporting infrastructure and development of new analytics to provide insight, primarily focused on the consumer lending business
Maintain and enhance TCMs daily Economic Value of Equity (EVE) process
Handle and improve the daily/monthly spreads collection and reporting process
Provide thought leadership to TCMs daily investment portfolio strategy, then coordinate with Portfolio Managers and Traders for strategy execution
Utilize technical skillset to develop automation impacting standard processes and reporting
Support ALM positioning strategy by using existing capabilities, tools, and reports
Use industry research and stay abreast of trends across the industry & peers
What you have:
A minimum of 7+ years relevant experience
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, economics, engineering or related field is required, additionally Masters and/or CFA required, MBA preferred
Passion to develop new analyses to help drive the strategy in the line of business
Solid understanding of consumer mortgages, HELOCs and PAL products
Knowledge of fixed income modeling in systems such as PolyPaths, BlackRock, Murex, Bloomberg, QRM, Calypso
Experience with software such as Alteryx, Tableau, etc.
Proficiency with SQL, Python or VBA (or another general-purpose programming language)
Ability to multi-task while maintaining composure in a potentially stressful environment
