Position Summary Owns delivery of a case’s treasury scope, or a technical treasury workstream across several cases, end to end, reporting to the Sr. Manager, Treasury.Handles ambiguity with no documented precedent, interpreting court orders and settlement agreements to determine the correct treatment.Trusted in front of counsel or a client unaccompanied on substantive treasury and tax matters.Guides and reviews the work of less experienced treasury staff without formal management authority.Owns complex, multi-state tax compliance and drives process and technology improvements across the function.The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with deep payroll-tax and treasury expertise and a continuous-improvement mindset.Ultimately, this role is part of Atticus’ strategic execution to ‘make our clients look good’.Key Responsibilities Tax Compliance (Complex, Multi-State)Own quarterly and annual tax filings (W-2, 1099-MISC / NEC / INT, 1120-SF) across all 50 states for assigned cases.Manage local tax compliance, reciprocity rules, and withholding accounts.Handle corrections, amended filings, and responses to federal and state notices independently.Treasury OperationsOversee QSF disbursement processes and optimize reconciliation workflows across assigned scope.Coordinate banking activities, including account openings and closures and positive pay, with banking partners.Monitor cash balances and ensure compliance with fiduciary requirements.Class Action Financial AdministrationCalculate and validate class member award distributions and maintain detailed allocation records.Coordinate with internal project management teams to ensure accurate and timely disbursements across a case or portfolio.Maintain and monitor class distribution data, including check registers and payment logs.Process, Technology & TeamDevelop and maintain SOPs for tax filings, notices, corrections, and reconciliation.Identify opportunities to streamline manual steps and improve data integrity; partner with IT and finance on workflow enhancements (e.g., Monday, Airtable).Guide, review, and informally train Treasury Analyst I and II staff and serve as a first point of escalation on factual treasury matters.Identify compliance or client risk before it materializes and judge what to escalate.QualificationsRequired4–6+ years of experience in payroll tax compliance or treasury operations.Expertise in multi-state payroll and tax filings, including local jurisdictions.Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with state tax portals.Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous situations with no documented precedent.Effective communicator with external vendors (e.g., banks) and internal stakeholders, trusted unaccompanied.What Will Set You ApartBachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.Experience with 1099 tax filing platforms and workflow automation tools (Airtable, Monday, or similar).Certifications such as FPC, CPP, CPA, or EA.Experience in class action administration, settlement funds, or fiduciary fund management.Intermediate understanding of data structures and ETL concepts.Skills & CompetenciesExpectations are anchored in the firm’s core values — Smart, Accountable, Better — at the level appropriate to this role.SmartDiagnoses root cause independently and makes sound calls with incomplete information; judges accurately what to escalate.Handles substantive exchanges with counsel, clients, and banking partners and translates complex mechanics into plain language.AccountableInterprets court orders and settlement agreements and works from them; anticipates exposure before it arises.Plans backward from court dates and settlement milestones and manages competing case demands without dropping items.BetterIdentifies where a process is producing errors and fixes it within scope, documenting the change so it holds.Documents knowledge so others can use it and trains and reviews less experienced staff well.About Atticus AdministrationAtticus is a fast-growing, technology-enabled legal services company that provides pre-settlement and post-settlement administration services for class action cases.
