The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for a Treasury Cashier. This positions performs a variety of technical clerical duties related to the collection and receipt of payment for public utility accounts and other various municipal fees. This job requires the ability to provide a professional demeanor and superior customer service skills are essential. Dependability, integrity, analytical thinking, initiative, cooperation, persistence, and tolerance of stress are also core elements.
Assists walk-in customers by receiving payments by cash, check and credit cards for utility accounts and payments of other municipal fees and bills.
Assist in all billing department functions as necessary.
Assist customers by providing information and resolving their concerns.
Searches data for input errors and makes corrections.
Monitors the entry of utility payment data; identifies appropriate procedure for making data entries and extractions; assists personnel in making complicated entries and extractions.
Empty payment drop box twice daily; opens mail delivered and in person for both individuals and businesses; prepares to run payments; arranges security escort daily to make Treasurers Office bank deposit.
Performs related duties as required.
1. Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from standard High School with course background in modern office practice skills; AND B. Two (2) years of post High School work experience providing exposure to data entry, receipting, cash balancing, and responsible clerical duties and responsibilities; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of keyboarding operations related personal computers; working knowledge of procedures and methodologies and options for terminal operation; working knowledge of standard office equipment; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; some knowledge of interpersonal communication skills; some knowledge of entry level bookkeeping or accounting.
Ability to organize data entry and recording requirements; ability to operate a variety of office machines; ability to communicate effectively, with supervisors, fellow employees and the public.
3. Special Qualifications:
Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain. Periodic walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, required in normal course of performing essential duties. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to effective performance of the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
